So much for posting once a week. Actually, I haven’t forgotten about this blog. I’ve just been ignoring it to focus on Flex.
Since the last post, I’ve settled on the Google API and have worked with it to create a library locator (sounds easy, doesn’t it?). One thing I want to do is animate markers to indicate amounts or times of requests being filled by different libraries. How to do it? Answers to my questions on the Google API forum provide hints but no clear answers.
Then, a couple of days ago, I came across an excellent example on FlowingData (http://flowingdata.com/index.php?s=walmart+code).
It gives me a huge jumpstart in getting the kind of effects I’m looking for. This weekend will be dedicated to tweaking it.
After working for hours on end each day with attempts at creating tag clouds, and various other components — usually seeing error after error — I’ve started to accept that ideas will almost certainly not work quickly, and may not even work at all. All the error messages are not quite as irritating.
